Michael Francis received degrees in music from the University of Cambridge, and did his doctoral work in the Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity program at the University of Notre Dame. He teaches a wide range of courses in biblical studies at JBU. In his research he studies scripture and its interpretation in ancient cultural contexts, with a focus on the history of ideas within early Judaism and Christianity. He is currently completing a book on scriptural interpretation, philosophy, and ethics in Hellenistic Judaism.
