Get to know Samantha

Samantha Linder, JBU Admissions Counselor

Where are you from?

Oklahoma City and, most recently, Germany

What was your major in college?

Intercultural Studies, with minors in TESOL and French

What activities did you participate in at JBU?

Swing dance club; intramural volleyball, basketball, and flag football; enthusiastic attendant at every event on campus

What advice would you give to an incoming student?

Don’t worry about who you were before you came to JBU, or even who you were yesterday. Live in the freedom of the power of Christ and His forgiveness and be the person you want to be today.

Make the most of each opportunity at JBU, especially in your first year. Even if it seems like something you’re not interested in, still plan to stop by an activity for a few minutes. The more things you do on campus, the more you’ll feel connected to life at JBU, and you’ll make friends and memories in the most unlikely of places!

Why are you working at JBU?

During my time here, I grew spiritually, relationally, and academically. I loved that my classes not only prepared me for life after college, but also gave me opportunities to apply what I was learning to “real life” outside of the classroom. In addition, I made some of my best friends here--people that I know will be in my life forever. I want to be a part of helping students understand what JBU is and how studying here will enrich their lives.

Favorite thing to do in NWA?

Northwest Arkansas is a really beautiful place! I love that you can enjoy nature right in Siloam Springs. A perfect day for me in NWA includes reading in my hammock, eating at one of the many international restaurants in the area, and having friends over to play games.

Favorite books?

I love most every book I’ve read! I especially like fantasy books; some of my favorite authors include T.A. Barron and Cornelia Funk. I recently discovered a love for books on the Christian life.

Favorite games?

I LOVE boardgames! When my husband and I moved to Germany, we brought 2 duffle bags full of board games. Currently, some of my favorite games include Settlers of Catan, Bastion, and Kingdomino.

Describe your family.

My husband and I worked for a school for MKs (missionary kids) in Germany for 5 years after we graduated from JBU. We really love playing games, watching movies, and snow! We have dreams of adding a dog or cat to our lives now that we’re back in the US.
