Get to know Austin

Claire Johnson, JBU Admissions CounselorWhere are you from?

Little Rock, AR

Major in College?

What activities were you involved in at JBU?

I was involved in Enactus, the Threefold Advocate (our campus newspaper), and the J. Alvin annual Wiffle Ball Tournament (2017 champs!)

Why are you working at JBU?

There’s a unique environment fostered here that you won’t find at any other school. A nearly perfect balance is struck between inward reflection and outward awareness on intellectual, spiritual, and social levels. I was so drawn to it that I transferred to JBU after spending two years at a state school.

What are your favorite things to do in NWA?

Anything outdoors, but particularly canoeing, hiking, camping, and fishing, followed by a trip to Pure Joy Ice Cream!

What are some movies you enjoy?

I’m a sucker for coming of age movies and indie films. Some of my favorites are Boyhood, Room, The Darjeeling Limited, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Describe your family

My wife, Abby, is the kindest person you will ever meet. She’s a dreamer, and she holds our lives together so graciously. We have two cats, Fiona and Freddy, and I am a proud cat dad.

What quick advice would you give an incoming JBU student?

Don’t be afraid to say “let me think about that.” You will be asked to join a million clubs and do a million different things. Own your schedule, and don’t let it own you!
