Choosing a Major

Biology Major

  • This option is for students interested in preparing for graduate school in biology or professional school in a health-related field. Students are prepared to work as biologists in a laboratory. It can also be customized to serve students interested in field-type work such as wildlife management, environmental education and policy, government and park services, camp and recreation, missions, etc.

Chemistry Major

  • This option is for students interested in preparing for graduate school in chemistry, professional school in pharmacy or another health-related field, or working in a laboratory setting.

Biochemistry Major

  • This option is for students interested in preparing for graduate school in biochemistry/molecular biology; professional school in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy; or working in a laboratory setting.

Kinesiology Major

  • This option with its emphasis in Sports Medicine is for students interested in athletic training or physical therapy, as well  as in preparing for graduate school in related fields such as exercise physiology and sports psychology. The Health & Wellness emphasis is ideal for a student interested in conducting individual  exercise programs and fitness testing in a career as a personal trainer, exercise/fitness instructor, physical education teacher, or coach.

Mathematics Major

  • This option is for students interested in careers that require mathematical skills and/or for preparation for graduate school in mathematics.

Mathematics Education Major

  • This option is for students interested in careers in teaching mathematics at the secondary school level.

Nursing Major

  • This option is for students interested in a career as a registered nurse and/or to prepare for graduate education in nursing.
