Meet the Resident Director of J. Alvin
My name is John Macikas, and I am the Resident Director of J Alvin Hall. I grew up in Naperville, a suburb of Chicago, IL, so I am an avid Chicago sports fan. I attended Wheaton College for both my undergraduate degrees in Bible-Theology and Christian Education and my graduate degree in Christian Formation and Ministry: Student Development Concentration.
Living on campus has had a huge impact on me. As a student in college, I had conversations in my residence hall that changed me and my walk with God. I also was an RA at Wheaton, and through that experience I realized that the things I was learning in my hall with my fellow students was a microcosm for how I wanted to live the rest of my life. As I pursued my master’s degree, I was a graduate assistant working in residence life, and I loved the opportunities for discipleship and formation in walking alongside students every day. It should also be said that I met my amazing wife Laura in a residence hall!
Here in J Alvin at JBU, I am excited to support and challenge young men to live with God and for him in every aspect of their lives. J Alvin has a rich tradition of engaging the idea of “redeeming manhood.” I am excited to facilitate spaces where we can continually discover and encounter what it means to be men who are growing into wisdom and maturity in Christ. J Alvin Rules!
