Lauren '09

Joan and I completed a career in the Air Force several years ago and made San Antonio our home. We have three wonderful children - Alie, a young professional here in San Antonio, Jordan in his first year of law school in Houston, and Lauren ('09), our youngest, a sophomore at JBU.

We first heard about Siloam Springs and John Brown University from our niece, Laurie Pierce ('03). She was wildly enthusiastic about JBU and completely sold our daughter Lauren ('09) on the idea without her ever having seen the campus. Nonetheless, when Lauren came into Siloam Springs for the “Texas Fly-in” in November of 2004, Laurie happened to be in town to visit some friends and gave Lauren the royal tour and that visit was the turning point!

Joan and I were more than curious when we came for our first visit in January of 2005. We had heard endlessly about Lauren's excitement about JBU, but when we finally got to experience it for ourselves, we felt total validation about Lauren's choice. We had home-schooled Lauren and have always been very selective about the kinds of social and educational environments that we wanted for her. We fell in love with the whole package- the students, the faculty, the administration, the lovely campus and, of course, the Christ-centered focus of everything. Even though I was out of a job at the time, we prayed about the possibility of Lauren being able to go there and the Lord provided in miraculous ways. We found the financial aid office and the administration to be more than supportive and understanding.

Our subsequent visits have confirmed our decision to send our daughter to this amazing school with the rich educational, spiritual and social opportunities that it offers to Lauren. It is hard to have her so far from home, but we are so persuaded that this is where the Lord wants her that we are willing to make the sacrifice.

Joan and I were eager to become involved with the Parents Association Council and look forward to serving in any way we can in this capacity. Please call us if you have any questions about the University. If we don't know the answers, we will find them for you!
