WINTER ORIENTATION 2013
January 7-8
Welcome!
Hello! Let me be one of the first to let you know how excited we all are that you are coming to join the John Brown University family (your second family)! The Student Orientation Directors have been hard at work, planning with you in mind. We’ve designed a great program of activities, informational sessions, interactions and more that we believe will help you make an excellent transition to John Brown University, whether you're a new freshman or a transfer student.
View the tentative schedule here, to give you a preview of the terrific events coming your way, plus some helpful information. When you arrive, we’ll provide you with a final schedule (to be used during Orientation) and specific information to get you started on your road to college success here at JBU!
Plan now to arrive on campus between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013 for Orientation Check-In, located in Walker Student Center. (We won't be able to accommodate any arrivals before this time.) Once you arrive, the Orientation staff will be on hand to give you your room key (for those living on campus), orientation guide, and registration packet plus help you find your way. From there, you can go directly to your residence hall where residence life staff will assist you. If you have questions about your residence hall assignment, contact your Admissions counselor or the Residence Life Office (479-524-7229).
For those of you flying into the area and needing transportation from the airport, please contact Express Shuttle service at 1-866-535-0127. Express Shuttle provides service from both the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport and the Tulsa International Airport for a reasonable fee.
If you will be living off campus and commuting to JBU, you will still need to check-in on Monday and we encourage you to participate in all that Orientation has to offer.
THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
VERY IMPORTANT: You will need to fill out all necessary forms by going to: http://eagle.jbu.edu/services/FastPass/ . You will be asked to provide your Social Security Number and your ID#.
Financial Aid– Please visit http://www.jbu.edu/financial_aid/costs/estimate/ to estimate your financial costs. Direct your financial aid questions to David Burney, Assistant Director for Financial Aid (dburney@jbu.edu or 479-524-7427).
Student Financial Account
For information regarding payment plans and other student account topics, see the Student Accounts Services resource page on EagleNet. If you have questions about your charges or student account, please contact Barbara Kenney, Student Accounts Representative (StudentAccountsUG@jbu.edu or 479-524-7113).
Catalog and Spring Course Schedule – Get acquainted with the core curriculum and major requirements. Begin to map out a tentative spring class schedule before meeting with your faculty adviser at registration on Monday (at 1:30 pm). You can find the catalog and course listings on our website by going to: http://www.jbu.edu/catalog/current/ and http://www.jbu.edu/registrar/course_schedules/
Register your vehicle – Go to https://www.jbu.edu/campus_safety/registration_info/, fill in the form, and ‘Submit’. We will put your decal in Campus Mail. If you don’t get Campus Mail, your decal will be ‘Will Call’ at the window of the Campus Post Office, just present an ID to pick up your decal.
Should you have more questions once you arrive, stop by the Orientation Check-In table, located in the Walker Student Center, right in the middle of campus on Monday, January 7, 2013 from 9-11am.
We'll keep you busy and active, learning about JBU, laughing, playing, and getting acquainted throughout Orientation; so don't schedule anything else during this time. For those of you worried about finding time to set up your room, notice that we’ve allowed time on Monday and Tuesday afternoon.
We expect all new full-time students to take part in Orientation. Your student account will be charged a fee to offset part of the expenses involved in this vital program. If you have an extenuating circumstance and cannot attend, please contact Don Crandall in the Admissions office to obtain a waiver.
Plan now to be a part of all of the Orientation activities...you’ll be glad you did!

Thank You!
