Technical Requirements

Computer:

In order to access JBU online course content you will need a computer. It is preferable that you have your own computer at home. If not, it must be a computer that is convenient for you to access, since you will have to be online and in your class at least 3 -4 times per week.  It is the your responsibility to have a backup plan in case your technology fails.

Below are computer system recommendations:

  • Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 or MAC OS 10.5.8 or higher
  • 2 GB RAM or more recommended (1 GB RAM minimum)
  • Sound card and speakers
  • DSL or Cable modem recommended
  • Internet Explorer 8 or 9,  Firefox 3.6(or higher), or Safari 4.0(or higher), Chrome 16.0(or higher)
  • Word Processing Software (Microsoft Word is recommended)
  • Microphone/Headset

High Speed Internet:

You will need reliable internet access to participate in online courses.  Almost any high speed internet will work.  A dial-up connection (56K modem) will run very slowly and is not recommended.

Computer Skills:

All online students should be able to:

  • Connect to the internet
  • Use email
  • Create, store and retrieve files
  • Use a word processing program
  • Copy and paste text
  • Navigate the internet
