Siloam Springs, Ark (June 27, 2000) – The National Council of Alpha Chi has named John Brown University senior Lisa Janelle Cooper an Alfred H. Nolle scholarship recipient for the 2000-2001 academic year. Cooper was one of only ten students selected nationwide to receive this prestigious award.

The National College Honor Scholarship Society and the National Council of Alpha Chi awarded Cooper the competitive scholarship in recognition of her academic achievements.

Cooper won the award for a research paper she wrote for her "Harmonic Form and Analysis" music course. The paper was entitled, "Ethnomusicologist and Innovator: A Study of Bartok¹s Compositional Techniques in His Rumanian Dance No. 1, Op. 8a."

Cooper said being an Alfred H. Nolle recipient is something she is very thankful for. "I was so surprised when I received the letter confirming the award. All of us in Alpha Chi knew about it and had submitted papers to our advisor but I was not aware of my nomination." Cooper said. "In fact, my excitement led me to rush into a class and interrupt a final exam so I could tell my professor!"
