Siloam Springs, Ark. (December 6, 2003) - The NAIA Division I No. 7 ranked John Brown University Golden Eagles completed the season sweep over the Lyon College Scots using the hot shooting of Hector sharpshooter’s Andrew Stanek and Brandon Cole to pull away from the Scots 73-62 on Saturday afternoon in Siloam Springs.
An honorable mention All-American standout a year ago, Cole led all scorers with 26 points, hitting on 7 of 13 three-pointers for the game including 5 in a row at one point during a stretch in the second half. In the first half Stanek kept JBU close as he poured in all 16 of his points in the first frame. Stanek also added 5 rebounds, a steal, and a block in the game.
Lyon led by 4 points at the half 37-41 and built an early 10 point lead at the 18 minute mark of the second half before Cole started the comeback with a free throw line jump shot. The Golden Eagles went on a 30-8 run over the next 12 minutes, as Cole dazzled the home crowd pouring in 6 three-pointers and 21 points over that stretch.
Roger’s Ryan Woodson nearly pulled off a double double with 9 points and 10 rebounds in the contest, while Abdiel Mendieta added 11 points. The Scots were led by Little Rock standout Norris Weintz with 17 points. Beebe’s Jason Donaldson added 13 for the Scots. JBU moves to 10-1 on the season while Lyon falls to 7-4.
