Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 25, 2003) - With two even halves of scoring, John Brown University defeated Bacone College 69 - 35 on Tuesday evening in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Breaking a 16-16 tie midway through the first period, the Golden Eagles went on a 19-2 run to take a 35 -18 lead into the locker room at half. The Golden Eagles opened the second half with a strong defensive effort holding the Warriors scoreless for the first seven minutes. JBU went on to score 34 points in the second period to match the 35 in the first half.
Three Golden Eagles were in double figures with senior Bethany Sites leading the way with 19 points, a career high. Fifteen of Sites points came on shots beyond the three- point arc. Sophomore Kendra McCormick tossed in 12 points and freshman Ashley Wettengel followed closely with 11.
Coach Jeff Soderquist stated that, “ Our defense played extremely well tonight and Bethany carried the scoring load when we on that first half run. It’s good to be 7-1 at Thanksgiving break. It has been several years since we had 7 wins going into Thanksgiving.”
JBU will come back from Thanksgiving to face Rhema Bible College on Tuesday evening, December 2, at 5:30 pm in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
