Oklahoma City (February 17, 2012) - The JBU women’s basketball team picked up a huge road win on Thursday night by defeating Mid America Christian (Okla.) 60-41. With the win, the ladies improve to 14-13 overall and 8-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Senior Chelsea Garrison led the ladies with 16 points and eight boards, while Anna Parish added nine.
For MACU (10-15, 4-15), Parris Price also scored 16, while Chelsea Key had 11.
After leading 26-20 at the half, JBU built some momentum and made it an 11 point game, 33-22, after Garrison scored at the 17:10 mark. But MACU responded with a 5-0 run to pull within six, 33-27, with 16:06 left to play.
From this point, JBU increased their defensive pressure and only gave up one point over the next 10 minutes, while continuing to hit on the offensive end to go ahead 47-28 with 7:12 remaining.
MACU managed to cut it back down to 14, 49-34, after a Key buried a trey at the 4:29 mark, but the Lady Eagles kept it together down the stretch to run away with the victory.
For the game, JBU hit 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the floor, while holding MACU to 33.3 percent (17-of-51). JBU won the rebounding battle 38-29 and managed to force 18 turnovers while committing only 15.
Up next, the women return home on Saturday to face No. 1 Oklahoma City at 3 p.m. in Bill George Arena. Saturday will also be senior day for the Lady Eagles where we will honor Chelsea Garrison and Brittany Hopper.
