Bethany, Okla. (September 29, 2009) - It was a seesaw battle for the JBU women’s soccer team on Tuesday night against Southern Nazarene (Okla.). Both teams traded blows on the evening, but it was JBU that scored the knockout with the 3-2 victory in Bethany.
SNU (5-3-1, 0-1) struck first in the 10th when Jackie Acevedo took the assist from Beatriz Silva.
Jodi Knack tied things up for JBU (4-4, 1-0) in 30th with Sarah Kidd picking up the assist. Two minutes later, JBU committed a foul in the box, which forced an SNU penalty kick. Silva stuck the PK in the left corner to go ahead 2-1.
SNU held the one-point advantage heading into intermission.
In the second half, JBU turned the tables and scored in the 55th as Sarah Kidd picked up an unassisted goal to knot it a 2-2.
Then in the 76th Camille Mickiewicz’s cross set up Kathryn Rehner for the game winner.
SNU couldn’t regroup during the final 14 minutes of play.
Overall, JBU out shot SNU 23-17 with a 9-7 shots-on-goal advantage.
Faith Thurman picked up seven saves in the win. Erika from had six saves for the Crimson Storm.
Up next, JBU returns home to face St. Gregory’s (Okla.) in their second conference game of the year. Game time is Saturday at 1 p.m.
