Bethany, Okla. (January 12, 2008) - John Brown men’s basketball dropped a 55-66 decision against 13th ranked Southern Nazarene (Okla.), while the women faced a similiar fate, falling 58-64 to the 15th ranked Lady Crimson Storm.
In men’s action, the loss drops JBU to 9-6 overall and 2-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Crimson Storm moves to 12-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
Down six at halftime, 27-33, JBU couldn’t close the gap in the second half as SNU pulled away for the 11 point win.
Leading scorers for JBU were Joel Tesis with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Jarrett McGriff added 13.
Milorad Damnajac led SNU with 19.
Turnovers hurt the Golden Eagles on the night as they committed 23 for the game to only 13 from Southern Nazarene. The Golden Eagles, however, won the battle of the boards 34-25.
JBU returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 17 when they travel to face Northwestern Okla. State at 8 p.m.
In the early game of the night, John Brown’s women went into the break deadlocked at 27-27, but SNU was able to go up by six and hold on for the 64-58 win.
Michaela Cully led the Lady Golden Eagles with 18 points. Ashley Taylor added 17 and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
Mara Kee led SNU with 16.
With the loss JBU drops to 6-9 and 1-6 in the SAC. SNU improves to 12-2, 6-1.
The women also travel to Northwestern Okla. State for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Thursday.
