Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 17, 2006) - The John Brown men’s tennis team picked up two important non-conference wins Thursday in Bartlesville, Okla. The Golden Eagles knocked off host Oklahoma Wesleyan 5-4, and then defeated Tabor (Kan.) by the same score.
Austin Phillips and Bobby Rojas earned an 8-6 doubles victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan’s Jim Rabuck and Ben Schmitt. In singles, Phillips beat Rabuck 6-7, 7-6, 10-6; and Rojas defeated Ryan Kosmicki 6-4, 6-2. Sam Van Aswegen swept Bruno Seves 6-1, 6-2; and Peter Thulson beat Dan Sitton 6-1, 6-4.
Against Tabor, Phillips and Rojas collected another doubles win 8-0. Phillips beat Andrew Braun in singles 6-1, 6-2; and Rojas defeated Jason Reiswig 2-6, 7-6, 10-3. Kevin Coleman topped Michael Hagen 6-0, 6-1; and Van Aswegen beat Aaron Friesen 6-3, 6-3. The pair of victories improved John Brown’s record to 5-6. They play next at Dallas Baptist on April 7.
