Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 19, 2006) - The John Brown Golden Eagles have signed three players to next year’s women’s basketball team. Amber Vogts, Paige Blackburn, and Emily Bell have all signed letters of intent to play for the Golden Eagles next season.
Vogts, a 6-1 forward, is a three-year letter winner from Newton (Kan.) High School and has started since her sophomore season. Vogts was a second-team All-Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League selection as a junior and helped lead Newton to a Class 5A state tournament berth as a sophomore. Her team is currently 7-0 on the season and is ranked in the top 5 of Kansas’ 5A classification.
Blackburn, a 5-10 guard, was a two-time All-State selection during her sophomore and junior years at Harrison (Ark.) High School. She helped lead her team to two state finals and one state championship. Having transferred to Valley Springs (Ark.) High School for her senior year, she is currently averaging 18 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 3 steals per game.
Bell, a 6-2 post is a three-year letterwinner from Berryville (Ark.) High School and has started since her sophomore season. Bell was selected to the AAA All-Conference team and the KURM Dream team during her junior year. She currently averages 14 points and 6 rebounds per game for Berryville.
“We feel that all three players can come in and contribute next year,” stated head Coach Jeff Soderquist, “we will be graduating five seniors, and as a consequence, we will be counting on some of our young players to step in and contribute right away.” The Golden Eagles will graduate Kendra McCormick, Brooke Warder, Alicia Baer, Lesli Fanning, and Natalie Reid.
