John Brown University Women Swimmers Second in Triangular
Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 9, 2004) — St. Louis was the site for the triangular meet this past Saturday as John Brown University women scored a second place finish behind Lindenwood University 137-98. Rounding out the team scoring was Eureka College with 17 points.
The Golden Eagle women had two swimmers make the NAIA national qualifying time.
Canda Cottrill with a 1st place time of 5:44.55 in the 500 Yard Freestyle and Rebecca Camfield with a 3rd place in the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:06.87 swam to times that exceeded the qualifying mark for the national meet.
In addition to Cottrill’s winning effort, JBU had four other first place finishes in the women’s meet. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Jenny Brown, Stephanie Burrell, Kathleen Kubricht, and Lindsey Smith swam 1:58.13 to take top honors. Cotrill also won the 200 Yard Freestyle with 2:07.68, Burrell captured the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.96 and the team of Smith, Emily McGuire, Sara Becker and Mariah Rose won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in 1:51.14 rounded out the winning efforts.
Second place finishes for the Golden Eagles came from Christy Eye in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 13.11.22, Rose in the 200 Yard Freestyle at 2:08.23, Burrell with 27.32 in the 50 Yard Freestyle, Kubricht swam 2:26. 60 in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and 59.58 in the 100 Yard Freestyle, Smith recorded a 1:04.8 in the 100 Yard Butterfly, Rose had a time of 1:06.84 (previously NAIA qualified) in the 100 Yard Backstroke and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Cottrill, Eye, Camfield and Sara Daugherty swam 4:19.58 to close out the runner-up scoring.
JBU will now swim in the Liberal Arts Conference meet on February 19-21 and then take the individuals and relay teams qualified to the NAIA National meet in Lawrence, Kansas on March 3-6.
