Golden Eagles Post Tenth Victory, Win Shootout over Ecclesia, 97-84
SPRINGDALE, Ark. (December 6, 2012) — John Brown posted 53 first-half points as freshman forward D'Shon Taylor drained 20 points, powering the Golden Eagles to a 97-84 victory tonight over Ecclesia (Ark.) at Her-Ber High School tonight in Springdale.
With the win, JBU moved into the double-digit win column, moving to 10-1 on the season. The Royals fall to 0-10.
D'Shon Taylor paced the Golden Eagle offense, netting 20 points and six rebounds. The game marked the fourth time in the last five games Taylor has finished in double-digit points. Additionally, he moves into second place on the team in scoring (10.73 points per game), joining sophomore forward Max Hopfgartner as the only two players to average over 10 points per game.
Senior guard Coleson Rakestraw chipped in with 16 points, knocking down three triples on seven attempts. Freshman guard Collin Hart finished with 12 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc.
As usual, John Brown dominated on the boards, out-rebounding Ecclesia by a 59-27 margin. Junior forward Darian Doleman pulled down seven rebounds while five other JBU players finished with six rebounds apiece.
The Royals put up a valiant effort as the host squad was only able to dress six players for the contest. Despite a short bench, Ecclesia managed to outscore John Brown 47-44 in the second half, but the 53 first-half points by the Golden Eagles was too much to overcome.
Levi Roberts scored a game-high 22 points for the Royals.
The Golden Eagles shot 44 percent (11-of-25) from three point range, receiving a trio of treys from Rakestraw, Hart and senior guard Abel Galliguez.
The Golden Eagles will now rest until Saturday, Dec. 15, when it travels to Dallas Christian (Texas) for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. The game against its NCCAA opponent will serve as a final tune-up before John Brown makes its way to San Marcos, Calif. where JBU will face former No. 8 Westmont (Calif.) and Trinity Western (B.C.) in the Cal-State San Marcos Tournament on Dec. 18-19.
