Hot Shooting Propels John Brown to 91-53 Win over Ecclesia
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (November 6, 2012) — Coleson Rakestraw drained 11 points and the Golden Eagles opened up a 51-17 first-half advantage en route to dismantling Ecclesia (Ark.) 91-53 tonight at Bill George Arena.
JBU (3-0) never trailed throughout the game.
A pair of three-pointers from Rakestraw and a triple from Max Hopfgartner handed John Brown a commanding 9-0 lead before Ecclesia (0-3) was able to find the scoreboard.
Powered by 18-of-28 shooting in the first half, JBU built a 20-3 advantage before taking a 34-point lead into halftime.
Despite forcing 12 Golden Eagle turnovers in the first half, the Royals were only able to shoot 6-of-27 (22.2 percent) from the field and finding themselves out-rebounded by the home squad, 26-12.
The onslaught continued in the second half as John brown opened the second half on a 19-13 run, running the Royal deficit to 40 off a E.J. McWoods field goal.
The JBU lead would continue to fluctuate in the mid-30s as the Golden Eagles shot at a 66.7 percent clip (16-of-24).
John Brown avoided adverse results stemming from its 21 turnovers by limiting Ecclesia to 10-of-25 shooting in the second half.
Collin Hart dished out a team-high six assists while Tucker Trumbo and D'Shon Taylor chipped in with 10 points apiece.
Leading the John Brown charge on the boards was Nate Anderson, collecting eight rebounds, resulting in a 44-21 advantage in JBU's favor.
John Brown will now face Red River Athletic Conference opponent Bacone (Okla.) on Thursday (Nov. 8) at Bill George Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
