Women's Cross Country Claims Seventh at SAC Conference Run
SHAWNEE, Okla. (November 3, 2012) — Junior Valerie Kliewer posted the top time for the women's cross country program as the ladies locked up seventh place at the Sooner Athletic Conference meet, hosted by Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee today.
Oklahoma Baptist captured the title with 30 points, followed by Rogers State with 79, Oklahoma City with 89, Lubbock Christian at 101, Wayland Baptist at 120, St. Gregory’s at 158, John Brown at 166 and Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 183.
Kliewer ran the 5,000 kilometer race in 19:53, handing her the No. 22 spot in the field.
OBU's Hannah Helker ran away with the individual title, finishing in 17:31 despite an ankle injury earlier in the week. Helker won for the fifth time in as many races this season and topped 2011 champion Brenda Felipe of Rogers State (Okla.) by 36 seconds.
Crossing the finish line under a minute later were a pair of Golden Eagles as junior Melissa Roth secured 33rd place while sophomore teammate Kari Miller finished just nine seconds later. Roth turned in a performance of 20:35 while Miller posted a 20:44 finish.
Completing the list of the top five JBU runners were freshman Chrissie Lewis and sophomore Kelsey Rae. Lewis took 50th place with her run of 21:49 while Rae finished one spot behind, claiming 51st with a time of 22:14.
John Brown's team total was enough to finish seventh, edging out last-place finisher Science and Arts (Okla.) by 17 points.
