Golden Eagles Battle Mid-America to Double Overtime Draw
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (October 24, 2012) — Eli Simonsen's goal in the 67th minute helped John Brown (6-6-2, 2-4-1 SAC) escape Oklahoma City today with a tie as JBU and Mid-America Christian played to a 1-1 draw.
Simonsen's set piece strike was the freshman midfielder's fifth of the season as the Faroe Islands native's second goal in four matches.
"I liked how we played today," said head coach John Miglarese. "We defended well and had some great ideas going forward which created a lot of chances. I think we were unlucky not to win today.
"Credit to Mid-America Christian for making this a difficult game for us."
The Evangels (8-5-2, 2-3-2 SAC) found the board first as MACU netted a header off a corner kick in the 28th minute to open the scoring.
Keeper Pablo Garcia would shut the door from there, finishing with five saves in the overtime affair.
MACU netminder Tyler McIntosh turned in an outstanding match, knocking aside 11 Golden Eagle opportunities.
A trio of Golden Eagles paced the JBU offense today as Simonsen, Martin Gonzalez and Andre Sandiford-Williams recorded three shots on goal each.
John Brown will close out its regular season slate this Saturday (Oct. 27) when it welcomes Oklahoma City to Alumni Field for a 3:00 p.m. start time.
