SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (October 20, 2012) - The Golden Eagles' struggle continued today as the Lady Chaps (7-1, 20-7 SAC) came into Bill George Arena and handed John Brown a quick 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-14) setback this afternoon.
Lubbock Christian is currently receiving votes in the latest NAIA national volleyball poll.
Despite playing close throughout the beginning of the first set, LCU rode an 11-point streak to take the first set handily, 25-18. The streak was ignited by the impressive serving of Lubbock's Tori Velasquez who notched two aces during that span.
The second set saw the best fight shown by JBU as the Golden Eagles stayed within three points of the Lady Chaps throughout the majority of the game. With the score at 20-18, Lubbock was able to secure five of the next 10 points, placing John Brown on the brink of its ninth loss in its last 11 games.
The Lady Chaps made no mistake, breaking open to a quick 10-3 advantage. The visitors would eventually take a 12 point lead, again off the heels of Velasquez's superb serving as she landed a second pair of aces.
Posting its worst hitting percentage of any set this season, LCU limited the Golden Eagles to a -.261 attack percentage in the third and final frame as JBU fell in three sets for the second consecutive night.
Erin McIlroy led John Brown in kills with seven while Audrey Dearien pitched in with six. Becca Young's 10 digs were good enough to equal the match high. Kailey Bain was able to net 13 assists on the afternoon.
John Brown will now take a break from its difficult Sooner Athletic Conference schedule as it ventures to Springfield, Mo. to take on Evangel (Mo.) on Tuesday (Oct. 23). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
