Golden Eagles Shutout Streak Broken, Stumble 2-0 at Rogers State
CLAREMORE, Okla. (October 19, 2012) - John Brown (8-4-1, 3-2-1 SAC) carried a shutout streak of over four matches into tonight's contest but was unable to extend the streak to five as it fell 2-0 to Rogers State in conference play tonight in Claremore.
Raquel Chavez was all the offense the Hillcats (11-3-1, 3-2-1 SAC) needed tonight as the freshman midfielder netted a pair of goals, the first coming in the 31st minute while the latter was scored in the 58th minute.
"We were flat out outworked today," admitted head coach Scott Marksberry. "RSU played very hard and we were unable to match their intensity.
"Hopefully we will learn from this and adopt a more assertive style of play in our remaining games."
Despite its struggles maintaining possession of the ball, John Brown more than doubled the pass attempts completed by the Hillcats, a margin of 148-71.
Whitney Brannan fired a team-high three shots on goal to pace the JBU offense.
Keeper Kristen Morency picked up six saves in the losing effort.
With the loss, JBU suffered its first defeat in five games, previously posting a 3-0-1 record in its prior four matches.
JBU will return to action next Wednesday (Oct. 24) when it hosts Mid-America Christian (Okla.) at Alumni Field. The game is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
