Hillcats Post 2-0 Shutout Victory Over John Brown

CLAREMORE, Okla. (October 19, 2012) — Fresh off a 2-1 victory over St. Gregory's (Okla.) Wednesday afternoon, the Hillcats of Rogers State handed JBU (6-6-1, 2-4-0 SAC) its sixth shutout loss of the season, a 2-0 decision tonight at Soldier Field.

RSU (6-6-3, 2-1-3 SAC) handily outshot the visiting Golden Eagles, posting a 26-10 advantage, 13 in each half.

Pablo Garcia played valiantly in net for John Brown, keeping the visitors within striking distance throughout the first half, collecting five saves in the first frame.

The Golden Eagles matched the Hillcats play in the first half, sending four shots toward the Rogers State keeper.

RSU struck first early in the first half when Niall Masterton weaved through the John Brown defense, sending the ball past Garcia for the 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

Twenty-two minutes later, reigning Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week Necas Collins padded the Rogers State lead, placing the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles who were unable to post a shot on goal in the second half.

Garcia finished the match with seven saves while Martin Gonzalez and Luke Theimer each notched two shots on goal in the scoreless loss.

With two games remaining, the Golden Eagles will look to bring its SAC win total to four and season win total to eight. JBU returns to the pitch next Wednesday (Oct. 24) when it travels to Mid-America Christian (Okla.) for a 3:00 p.m. match-up.
