Men’s Cross Country Captures First, Women’s Place Second
CLARKSVILLE, Ark. (September 29, 2012) - Both cross country programs posted season-bests today as the men captured the title while the women finished in second place at the University of the Ozarks Invitational today.
The men were paced by Marcos Gutierrez and Tekste Gebreslasse as the runners finished in second and third place overall, respectively. Gutierrez posted an impressive 27:27 in the 8k race while Gebreslasse crossed the finish line just moments after, notching a 28:06 finish.
Also placing in the top 10 finishers were Caleb Fuller and Kenny Crane, both turning in performances under the 30 minute mark.
The Golden Eagles finished with a score of 29 which placed a 16-point cushion from the University of Dallas which placed second overall.
On the women’s side, Melissa Roth recorded the best finish of the day, coming in at 19:52 while her JBU counterparts, Kari Miller and Val Kleiwer, secured eighth and ninth place overall.
Only minutes behind at 21:49, JBU’s Crissie Lewis wrapped up the quartet of Golden Eagles to place in the top 20 finishers.
While the University of Dallas ran away with the team title, JBU finished slightly ahead of NCAA II Henderson State with a team total of 64. HSU ended up with 69 points.
Both teams will return to the course on Saturday (Oct. 6) at the Oklahoma Baptist University Invitational in Shawnee, Okla.
