SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (October 6, 2012) — Cheyenne Padgett's goal in the 28th minute was enough as Kristen Morency made six saves in the Golden Eagle's 1-0 victory over visiting Science and Arts (Okla.) this afternoon at Alumni Field.

John Brown (6-3-0, 1-1-0 SAC) came out of the gates firing as Nicole Kosin recorded the first two shots towards the Drovers' net. Morency picked up the first save of the game in the 19th minute.

Just under 10 minutes later, JBU received all the offense it needed when Cheyenne Padgett snuck her way into scoring position as the Drovers left her unmarked in the center of the box. After collecting the ball 10 yards out, Padgett's strike to the upper corner handed JBU the 1-0 lead.

"Our attackers did a great job of getting the ball into the attacking third today," admitted Padgett. "I was nervous hitting the ball, but I saw the corner open and I had to go for it."

JBU was able to muster five shots in the first half, but only Padgett's strike was on goal.

Morency picked up three saves in the first half, giving John Brown a fighting chance to fend off the visiting Drovers in the final 45 minutes.

"We played very well in the first half and scored a great goal while we had the run of play," said head coach Scott Marksberry. "I was really pleased with how well we possessed (the ball) in our attacking half of the field."

USAO (7-5-0, 2-1-0 SAC) continued its onslaught on the John Brown net in the second half, firing six shots Morency's way.

Again, Morency was up to the task, collecting three saves in the second frame to preserve the shutout.

In the waning minutes of play, the Drovers had a prime scoring opportunity when Morency was just able to deflect a well-placed ball over the crossbar, denying Science and Arts a chance to find the scoreboard.

"The difference in today's game was our focus," added Marksberry. "The ladies really committed to it, and I commend them for that. Laura (Garcia) and Casey (O'Brien) did a nice job of holding the ball up in the midfield, allowing us to get numbers forward."

Padgett's second goal of the season proved to be the game winner as Morency posted her fourth solo shutout of the 2012 season.

The Golden Eagles will return to the pitch on Thursday (Oct. 11) when it travels to Wayland Baptist (Texas) as part of a two-game Texas road trip that features contests against the Flying Queens before matching up with Lubbock Christian on Saturday (Oct. 13). Thursday's game is set for a 5:00 p.m. kick off.
