Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 24, 2004) - On the strength of a 19-0 run midway through the first half, JBU built a 33-20 lead at intermission and went on to a 72-42 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday afternoon in Siloam Springs. During the 19-0 run, the Golden Eagles connected on 4 three-pointers with Brooke Warder beginning the barrage with the first 2 treys.
JBU’s largest lead of the day came with 4:40 left in the game on a three-point basket by Bethany Sites to push the score to 67-31. The Golden Eagles’ three point shooting continued to be an offensive factor with JBU adding five more three-pointers in the second half of play.
Kendra McCormick led the Golden Eagles with 16 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Contributing 11 points to the winning effort was Alicia Baer and Caitlin Chandler had 7 caroms to lead the team in rebounding. Leading the way for the Rangers was Jackie Regan with 13 points.
“This was a difficult game for us since Northwestern plays a different style of basketball than we normally see,” commented Coach Jeff Soderquist following the win. “We made a good adjustment in the second half and were able to work the ball inside giving us a better offensive balance. We now need to prepare to play a very strong Southern Nazarene team on Thursday.”
With the win, JBU ups their Sooner Athletic Conference record to 5-2 and the season record to 16-4. The Golden Eagles will next be in action on the road at Southern Nazarene, the No. 1 team in the NAIA, on Thursday, January 29 at 6:00 pm.
