Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 at No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene

OLATHE, Kan. (September 18, 2012) — On the road and pitted against its second-straight ranked opponent, the Golden Eagles men's soccer squad fell in similar fashion to Saturday, this time 1-0 to No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) this afternoon.

John Brown (3-2-1) has now suffered defeats in back-to-back games against Heart of America Athletic Conference teams.

"We had a terrible first half and it cost us," said head coach John Miglarese. JBU was outshot 7-1 in the first 45 minutes.

"We played a better second half but we need a quality effort over the entire match if we want to beat the eighth-ranked team in the nation. We don't want to just keep it close."

The match did not start out well for John Brown as the Pioneers took a quick 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when MNU's leading scorer, Trent Remmich, found himself with an open opportunity at the top of the 18 yard line. Making no mistake, Remmich and MidAmerica put the visitors back on its heels.

It was a difficult half as John Brown's only shot on goal came off the foot of Martin Gonzalez in the 39th minute. The shot was launched just inside the right side of the box.

After halftime, the Golden Eagles played more inspired soccer, matching MNU in shot 7-7.

JBU had an opportunity to tie the score in the waning moments, but Gonzalez couldn't find the back of the net as his shot sailed high.

Keeper Pablo Garcia collected four saves on five shots in the losing effort.

The Blue and Gold will now regroup for a home match this Saturday (Sept. 22) at Alumni Field as the Crusaders of Dallas Christian College are welcomed to Siloam Springs. Gametime is set for 3:00 p.m.
