Morency Earns Back-to-Back Player of the Week Accolades
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (September 17, 2012) — Oklahoma City's Allison Worsham and John Brown's Kristen Morency are Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 10-16.
"It's great for our whole team to have our goalkeeper earn back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week awards," said head coach Scott Marksberry. "Kristen played very well in our games over the weekend. Her impact on the field is easily missed in the stat line because she does such a good job of cutting off through-balls and handling crosses, which limits the number of shots taken in a game."
Morency, a freshman goalkeeper from Wheaton, Ill., had 12 saves and allowed one goal in JBU wins over Bacone and MidAmerica Nazarene.
"I expect Kristen to continue to improve throughout her time at JBU, and it is likely that we will see a few more these awards over the next three and a half seasons. I also think that this award represents great progress by our team to defend as a group. The back line, and really the entire team, has committed to limiting our opponents’ opportunities. Our entire team should join Kristen in celebrating this one."
Worsham, a freshman forward from Deer Creek, Okla., scored two goals in each of OCU's wins over MidAmerica Nazarene and Bacone. In addition to her four goals on the week, she had an assist against MNU.
