Education reform session produces tax amnesty bill

(January 22, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- The House Revenue and Tax Committee has advanced an income tax amnesty bill. The measure would give Arkansans owing back taxes six months to pay them without being penalized. Delinquent taxpayers would have from July first to December 31st to make arrangements with the state to pay the taxes. The plan could bring the state as much as two million dollars. The state last offered a tax amnesty period in 1997. The bill awaits final approval.
