Kristen Morency Named SAC Defensive Player of the Week
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (September 11, 2012) — Lubbock Christian's Brooke Wendl and John Brown's Kristen Morency are Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 3-9.
Morency, a freshman goalkeeper from Wheaton, Ill., led the Golden Eagles to three shutout wins, going the distance against Harding and Lyon and starting against NCAA III Ozarks (Ark.).
She had six saves on the week, including five in the victory over Lyon. Morency split duties with Alysan Burgbacher in the victory over Ozarks.
After two losses to begin the season, Morency and the Golden Eagles have improved to 3-2-0 overall heading into a weekend tournament, hosted by JBU. John Brown will face Bacone (Okla.) and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at Alumni Field.
Wendl, a freshman forward from Plano, Texas, scored three goals and had two assists in LCU wins over Wiley and Texas Wesleyan. She scored two goals, including the game-winner, in the victory over TWU. She leads the NAIA in game-winners with four this season.
