Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 25, 2003) - John Brown University pulled away in the final minutes to score a 69-51 victory over Bacone College Tuesday evening in Muskogee, Oklahoma. After a 33-22 halftime lead the Golden Eagles allowed Bacone to cut the lead to 49-45 midway through the second period. At that point JBU started what became a 13-0 run to increase the lead to 62-45 before going on to the final margin of 18 points.
Senior Abdiel Mendieta led all scorers with 19 points, several coming on slashing drives to the basket. Junior Reyjavick De Gracia scored another double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Following the victory, coach John Sheehy commented on the difference in this game and the season opener with Bacone. “ We beat Bacone only 8 points at home to open the season. Tonight, we had much better offensive execution and we had a much higher shooting percentage. We also have matured as a team.”
With the victory JBU goes to 8-0 on the season and will face Rhema Bible College next Tuesday in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at 7:30 pm.
