Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 6, 2003) - On Friday, October 31, the JBU swim teams competed in the annual Hendrix Classic. The women’s team scored 238 points to finish 4th in the competition while the men’s team compiled 228 points to also finish 4th out of 8 teams. Southwest Missouri State University won both divisions with 444 points in the women’s and 456 points in the men’s meets
Then on Saturday, November 1, the Golden Eagles swam in the Hendrix Relays. Both teams improved their team standing to 3rd place finishes as the women scored 249 points and the men scored 217 points. Henderson State University captured the women’s title with 294 points and also won the men’s division with 332 points.
JBU continues to earn more NAIA national qualifying times. In the two-day event at Hendrix, the Golden Eagles had 4 additional events to qualify for the national meet to be held in March at Lawrence, Kansas. Women’s events that qualified were the 400 Medley Relay team of Mariah Rose, Stephanie Burrell, Kathleen Kubricht and Lindsey Smith with a time of 4:21.45; the 800 Freestyle Relay team of Jenny Brown, Canda Cotrill, Rose and Smith in a time of 8:49.64 and individually Rose qualified in the 200 Backstroke as she swam a 2:23.63 for the distance. The only male qualifier was in the 100 Freestyle as Nik Hook sped to a time of 50.94.
The swim teams will travel to Rhodes College this weekend to compete in a triangular for the women and a 5 team meet for the men.
