AFL-CIO: Arkansas workers hurting
(November 6, 2003) — (Little Rock-AP) -- According to the A-F-L-C-I-O, Arkansas is in the lower half of the 50 states for workers' economic recovery. The labor union uses the rankings to reflect the damage of negative economic trends important to working families. In Arkansas, only household income improved during the period from 2000 to 2002, while the poverty rate rose, the share of residents with health coverage dropped and personal bankruptcy filings increased. The labor organization also pointed out that 75 percent of unemployed Arkansans exhausted their temporary emergency unemployment benefits before they could find new jobs.
