JBU Men Defeat Oklahoma Christian University

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 28, 2003) — Scoring in both halves, the Golden Eagles came away from the Sooner Athletic Conference game against Oklahoma Christian with a 2-1 victory. Leading off the scoring after only 6 minutes of play was sophomore Wesley Chase who was assisted on the scoring goal by sophomores Kyle Carter and Daniel Fleming. Oklahoma Christian tied the score midway through the first half and it remained knotted until the 71:00 minute mark of the game when freshman Rodrigo Juliao assisted Seth Hildebrant on the winning goal.

The victory puts JBU at 4-1 in the SAC and in position to be the outright conference champions depending on the outcome of the Southern Nazarene-St. Gregory’s game on Thursday. “We did our part to put us in a position to be the conference champs. Now, we have to wait until the game on Thursday,” commented Coach Bob Gustavson. SNU is 3-1 going into the Thursday game and St. Greg’s is 1-3. If SNU loses or ties, JBU will be the conference champs. If SNU wins, JBU will be in second place on the basis of the SNU win over JBU.

JBU is assured of a first round bye in the SAC tournament and will play next Tuesday in the second round. The team the Golden Eagles will face is to be determined with first round play this Saturday.
