Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 16, 2003) - After defeating Southwest Baptist University 3-1 earlier in the year on their home court, the Bearcats came to Siloam Springs with revenge on their mind and took home a 3-1 victory. JBU’s timing and rhythm were off after having two weeks without a match, with the exception of the third game in which JBU led all the way.
Leading the way for JBU in the statistical categories were junior Meghann Wharton with 13 kills, freshmen Emily Yates and Rachel Melby with 3 service aces apiece. Melby also added 23 assists. Defensively for the Golden Eagles, senior Kemi Rogers led the way with 17 digs and Wharton stood strong with 6 blocks.
Coach Robyn Gordon was disappointed to see her team come back after the two-week layoff out of sync. “We didn’t consistently execute throughout the match. We dug ourselves too many holes, and made too many mistakes, which gave them free points. However, it was nice to have Meghann back tonight; she came out very strong.”
With the loss, JBU drops to 16-8 on the year. The Golden Eagles will play again on Saturday at Hendrix College facing not only Hendrix but also Wheaton College. JBU will return home on October 21 for a Sooner Athletic Conference match with Southern Nazarene University at 7 pm. Then on Friday and Saturday, October 24-25, JBU will host the Blue and Gold Invitational with teams from William Jewell, Evangel, Lubbock Christian and Wayland Baptist.
