Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 15, 2003) - Scoring in both halves, the Golden Eagles came away from the Sooner Athletic Conference game against USAO with a 3-1 victory. Leading off the scoring after only 5 minutes of play was senior Kris Fincher. The score remained 1-0 until early in the second half when Bello Iliasson of USAO arched a shot in to knot the score at 1-1. Senior Federico Suarez scored on a great header shot allowing JBU to take the lead and then with 1:07 remaining in the game frosh Rodrigo Juliao scored the final goal to push JBU to the 3-1 margin.
“It was good to get back in the win column after our loss last Saturday. We needed this win to stay in the conference race,’ remarked Coach Bob Gustavson following the victory.
With the win, the Golden Eagles move up to 2-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play and are now 8-3-1 overall. JBU will get a break from conference play this Saturday when they entertain Southwestern Oklahoma State University in a 2 pm game at Alumni Field on the JBU campus. Next conference action will also be at home on Wednesday, October 22 when the Golden Eagles will take on Oklahoma City University at 3 pm.
