Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 27, 2003) - With only 22 seconds remaining in the first half, sophomore Brooke Williams aimed her penalty kick for the upper left corner of the goal putting the ball just out of reach of the opposing goalkeeper to score JBU’s first goal of the day on the way to a 2-0 win over Sooner Athletic Conference foe, Wayland Baptist University. The Golden Eagles came back early in the 2nd half to score their second goal on an unassisted play by freshman Kendra Rehner with 41:00 left in the game. On attempted shots by Wayland Baptist, freshman Amy Menegaz had 3 saves from her goalkeeper position.
Coach Joe Thoma expressed pleasure on the second conference win stating, “Ours is a young team in experience and as a sport at JBU, and to be playing this well speaks highly of our athletes. We have a tough road trip next week to play a couple of strong NAIA teams in California. Those games will really let us know how we stack up against the best in the NAIA.”
With today’s victory, the season record for the Golden Eagles is 7-1 and the SAC record is 2-0. JBU travels to the Los Angeles area next weekend to play NAIA 2nd ranked Azusa Pacific University on Friday, October 3 and then 13th ranked Notre Dame de Namur on Monday, October 6.
