Siloam Springs, Ark (September 19, 2003) - For the first time in its 84-year history, John Brown University is offering classes in South Arkansas for adult students who wish to complete a bachelor’s degree. The courses are part of JBU’s highly successful Advance Program. Class registration was completed on Sept. 8 at the Area Health Education Center - South Arkansas (AHEC-SA) in El Dorado. Classes will begin on September 22, 2003. “This is a great opportunity for JBU to bring our bachelor’s degree program in organizational management to Union County and the neighboring areas,” Dr. Richard Ellis, JBU’s Dean of Adult and Continuing Education said. “We have been impressed with the South Arkansas Community College associate degree graduates who are applying to JBU. We’re looking forward to working more closely with SouthArk.” After enrolling the students for the September class start, Ken Richards, site director of the Little Rock Center for the Advance Program, was enthusiastic about starting coursework in South Arkansas. “We appreciate the support and cooperation of the AHEC-SA staff, especially noting the efforts of the director, Dr. Mel Fratzke,” Richards said. “The response from the El Dorado community has made this new venture possible. Everyone in El Dorado has been great to work with. I am looking forward to a positive, on-going relationship as we work to enhance the community’s educational opportunities.” JBU’s Advance Program is a degree-completion program for working adults who have completed 60 or more hours of college credit and have two or more years of work experience. Classes meet one night per week, and most students can complete their bachelor’s degree in a year and a half. The program’s evening classes in El Dorado lead to a bachelor’s degree in organizational management. In addition to El Dorado, the Advance Program is offered in Springdale, Harrison, Fort Smith, Little Rock, and Hot Springs. A degree completion program in business information systems is available at some locations. John Brown University is a private university with an enrollment of more than 1,700 students from 42 states and 45 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
