Oklahoma boasts healthy graduation rate
(September 18, 2003) — (Tulsa-AP) -- A new study reveals that Oklahoma's high school graduation rate is significantly higher than the national average. A recent report by the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research placed the state in first place in the graduation rate of American Indians. The institute found that Oklahoma has a high school graduation rate of 77 percent -- 16th in the nation and seven percent higher than the national graduation average. The graduation rate of white students in Oklahoma is 80 percent. American Indian students post a 72 percent graduation rate compared to a national average of 54 percent. Black students have a rate of 66 percent and rank fifth among reporting states in the percentage of black students graduating from high school.
