Rolling meth labs increasing threat
(September 15, 2003) — (North Little Rock-AP) -- Beware -- that junker car in front of you could be carrying amethamphet-amine lab in its trunk. Police in Arkansas say makers of meth have taken to the highways. Because law enforcement is targeting meth labs in homes, apartments and sheds, meth makers are abandoning them for mobile versions stashed in car trunks. Now, the meth makers travel from forest preserve to parking lot to motel room, cooking as they go and ditching the labs when they spy police. Major Mitch Carolan, who coordinates the state police meth unit near Fort Smith, said he's found 60 labs in vehicles so far this year. He said police have stopped people on the highway who are actually cooking the dope while they're driving around.
