Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 8, 2003) - The Golden Eagle women’s tennis team traveled to Winfield, Kansas over the weekend to play Southwestern College and Cowley County Community College. The trip resulted in a win over Southwestern and a loss to Cowley County. In the Southwestern match, JBU won overall 6-3 on the strength of 4 individual match victories by Nicole Ediger, Melanie Regier, Silvy Perkins, and Raynisha Robinson. To round out the scoring, the doubles teams of Ediger - Regier and Perkins-Robinson won their matches.
Against Cowley County, JBU ran into a very strong nationally ranked junior college team. Although the final score was 0-9, the score does not indicate how close the matches were. The Golden Eagles played tough both in the win and the loss and Coach Walker stated, “ we gained some valuable experience with these early year matches. I felt our players kept their focus and showed no signs of letting up even when behind in the Cowley County matches. I am proud of the way we have started the year and look forward to the remainder of the fall season.”
The next match for JBU is Saturday, September 20, against Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri. The Golden Eagles will then return home for a match with University of the Ozarks on Saturday, September 27 at 10:30 am.
