Delta close to landing auto parts plant?
(September 4, 2003) — (Marion-AP) -- Marion and Arkansas economic development leaders aren't talking. But the city is negotiating to lure an auto parts supplier, and it's already taking steps to accommodate a plant that would bring jobs to the area. County Judge Melton Holt says he has been in meetings with Japanese businessmen and representatives from Marion and West Memphis. Holt says he believes the businessmen are from a company that makes truck parts. City economic development director Kay Brockwell says only that if the initial project is a success, it could be followed by a second, larger phase. The city published legal notices in the Tuesday edition of the West Memphis Evening Times announcing public hearings on September 16th. One concerns rezoning and a second asks for changes to permit construction of an industrial facility.
