Results of education survey

(August 29, 2003) — (Little Rock-AP) -- Selected topics and responses from the education poll commissioned by the Next Step Council, created by Governor Huckabee to influence education reform legislation. The poll was conducted by Dresner, Wickers and Associates between August 24th and August 26th and surveyed 426 registered Arkansas voters. ----- SCHOOLS -How respondents rated public schools in their communities: excellent, 15 percent; above average, 29 percent; average, 32 percent; below average, 12 percent; poor, 8 percent; not sure, 4 percent. -How respondents rated their local public schools on preparing students for college: excellent, 17 percent; good, 32 percent; fair, 27 percent; poor, 18 percent; not sure, 6 percent. -How respondents rate their local public schools on preparing students for the workforce: excellent, 10 percent; good, 30 percent; fair, 33 percent; poor, 19 percent, not sure, 8 percent. ----- JOB APPROVAL Rating on Education Reform Efforts Gov Leg Excellent 9 3 Above Avg 20 8 Average 31 43 Below Avg 14 17 Poor 20 18 Not Sure 6 12
