Tyson spills guts

(August 20, 2003) — (Springdale-AP) -- Springdale residents had a slippery commute after a load of raw turkey parts fell from a River Valley Animal Foods truck. The spill happened during yesterday morning's rush hour on U-S 71 Business. The spill left the street covered with a slick film, and traffic was reduced to one lane for a while. River Valley is a subsidiary of Springdale-based Tyson Foods. Tyson sent a cleanup crew to the scene. Tyson spokesman Ed Nicholson said the load was headed from a poultry plant to a rendering facility, where fat is separated from protein to make pet food. Nicholson says the truck's driver, identified as Dejuan Turner of Clarksville, attempted to stop quickly and some of the load shifted. The driver was cited for spilling on a roadway.
