Senator: uneducated don't value education for children
(August 4, 2003) — (Little Rock-AP) -- State Senator Jim Argue of Little Rock says there's a, quote," cultural disconnect" that causes some Arkansas parents not to value education. He said the problem stems in part from the state having one of the least-educated adult populations in the nation. Argue is allied with Governor Huckabee in the battle over how to improve the state's schools. He says many Arkansas parents don't understand what kind of education their children need if they are to succeed. Argue said Friday that leaders need to help those parents buy into a vision of a school system that's focused on academics, rather than athletics.
