The Lady Eagles finish the year in a disappointing 88-54 loss during the first round of the single-elimination SAC Tournament against No.1 Oklahoma City University Lady Stars on Thursday afternoon.
JBU finishes their year with an overall record of 15-16.
Senior Chelsea Garrison finished her last game at John Brown University leading the Lady Eagles with 11 points, and grabbed five rebounds to tie with freshman Morgan Ankrom. Sophomore Sierra Shipley followed Garrison with 10 points. Sophomore Anna Parish led JBU with three assists.
OCU (28-1, 22-1) finished with three players in double digits, led by Dietra Caldwell with 19. Nicollette Smith added 15 and Taylor Booze followed with 14. Tiffany Goldwire led OCU in rebounds with 10. Three players tied in lead assists with four: Goldwire, Booze and Kayla MacKenzie.
For the game, the Lady Eagles shot 34.7 percent (17-of-49) while giving up 41.9 percent (32-of-77) to OCU. The Lady Stars won the rebound game 50-30.
The first-seed OCU Lady Stars proved to shine with a 12-0 run to start the game. JBU finally added to the board off of a two-point shot from Ankrom. The Lady Eagles went on to score a total of 15 points while only allowing three, resulting in a tie game at 15-15 by the 7:08 mark. JBU gave OCU a run for their money while holding them to a lead of five-points or less. With two minutes left in the first half, OCU stepped up and clinched an eight point lead with a score of 35-27.
To start the second half, OCU increased their lead to 10 sparking a five-minute, 17-4 run. JBU fought back, but was unable to stop the Lady Stars offensive game, resulting in the Lady Stars’ high lead of 35 points by the 5:41 mark. With 1:51 left on the clock, senior Brittany Hopper sunk a 3-pointer before joining Garrison in stepping off the court for their last time. Hopper finished with a total of seven points, three rebounds and one assist. As time ran out, the Lady Eagles left everything on the court as their season ended.
