Bethany, Okla. (February 25, 2012) - The 15th ranked JBU men’s basketball team lost 60-58 to No. 23 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) on Saturday night in Bethany closing out the regular season at 23-7 overall and 15-7 in conference play.
Junior Coleson Rakestraw and senior Andy Garcia both finished with 15 points leading the Eagles. Senior Adrian Miller added 10.
For SNU (21-9, 14-8), Ryan Aaron had a game high 19 points followed by Jon West with 12.
With 13:26 left in the game, JBU held a 47-38 advantage. But SNU managed to close the gap after going on a 10-3 run capped off by a West bucket with 7:06 left to play.
SNU continued to hold on to the momentum and took their first lead of the second half when Horace McGloster buried a 3-pointer putting SNU ahead 55-53 lead with 2:32 remaining.
The teams traded buckets over the next few possession, but SNU managed to come out on top as JBU’s shot attempt to force overtime came up empty.
JBU struggled from the floor on the night only hitting 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the floor including a dismal 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from beyond the arc. The Eagles dominated the boards, however, winning the rebounding battle 44-23.
JBU secures the third seed heading into next week’s Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament and looks ahead to face the sixth seed Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Thursday. Official game times will be announced at 5 p.m. (CST) on Sunday, February 26.
