Golden Eagles break down No. 3 Bison
Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 28, 2012) — The JBU men’s basketball team knocked off No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist 78-71 on Saturday afternoon in Bill George Arena to move to 17-5 overall and 9-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Four JBU players finished in double figures led by junior Coleson Rakestraw’s 22 points. Senior Adrian Miller added 17, while senior Andy Garcia had 14. Junior Abel Galliguez rounded out the double-digit effort with 10 to go along with eight assists.
For OBU (18-3, 11-3), Heath McKay tossed in 22 points, while Emmanuel Wilson and Jacobi Isham had 11 and 10 respectively.
Throughout the game there were 10 ties and 16 lead changes. The final lead change came at the 4:57 mark in the second half, when junior EJ McWoods buried a 3-pointer giving JBU the 67-65 advantage.
After back-to-back buckets from Galliguez and Garcia made it 71-65 JBU, OBU responded with a 4-0 run to pull within two, 71-69, with 1:43 left to play. But JBU was too much to handle and continued to find ways to score closing the game out on a 7-2 run.
For the game, JBU shot 58 percent (29-of-50) from the floor including 59.1 percent from three (13-of-22), while giving up 50 percent (26-of-52) to OBU. JBU won the rebounding battle 30-27. Both teams committed only 12 turnovers.
Up next, JBU returns home on Thursday to face another top ranked opponent in No. 14 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) at 8 p.m.
