Women come up empty at Gregs
Shawnee, Okla. (January 26, 2012) — The JBU women’s basketball team continued their slump on Thursday night after losing 56-48 to St. Gregory’s (Okla.) in conference action. The loss drops JBU to 9-12 overall and 3-10 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Despite having three players finish in double figures, the JBU ladies couldn’t overcome a poor shooting performance. Sophomore Jessica Berlin led with 14 points, while junior Anna Parish added 12. Senior Chelsea Garrison pitched in with 11. Leading scorer Sierra Shipley was held scoreless.
As a team JBU only shot 32.6 percent (15-of-46) from the floor, while giving up 43.8 percent (21-of-48) to the Lady Cavaliers.
JBU held a 27-23 lead at halftime, but couldn’t maintain it in the second half. SGU managed to tie things up at 43 before taking the lead for good with 7:04 left to play.
Leticia Silva led SGU with 18 points, followed by Jalisa Howard with 15 and Brittany Joseph with 11.
Up next, the women return home to face Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at 3 p.m.
